Bike and Pedestrian Counts

NCTCOG’s Bike and Pedestrian Program follows trail counts throughout its core four-county area which includes: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton Counties. Over this time, the population of these counties has grown by 6.15%, and the Monthly Average Count has grown by 25.86%. While it is not stated whether these trips counted are for recreation or commute purposes, the overall count does show a need for increased bike and pedestrian facilities as the count in the four core counties has risen at rate 4 times that of the counties’ population growth.

The Bike and Pedestrian counts show how trail use has changed over the study period. This allows local governments to make decisions based on use data and also works to show the general trend for trail use in the area. Totals for each year were averaged against the total months of complete observations to account for station count growth and incomplete data set counts.
