Housing choice in the NCTCOG Region has long been primarily Single Family Detached. However, during the study period, Large Apartment buildings (20 units or more) grew the most in terms of percentage of the housing supply, from 9% to nearly 11%. Single Family Detached homes decreased in the share of housing supply by .07%, despite adding the greatest number of units (over 180,000).
Increased Housing Diversity can give new home buyers more options in selecting the home and location that best fits their needs. Additionally, it also allows for households to move from one housing type to another as their housing needs change.
